Lady Mireille & Sir Dennis Gillings
Global Public Health Fellowship

Money, Management, Medicine

The Lady Mireille and Sir Dennis Gillings Global Public Health Fellowship is a prestigious, two-year, Paris-based postdoctoral program at the Institut Pasteur designed to train the next generation of global public health leaders.

Rooted in Lady Mireille Gillings’ philosophy of the “3 Ms” — money, management, and medicine — the Fellowship recognizes that scientific excellence alone is not enough to drive global health impact. Lasting progress requires leaders who can conduct world-class research, manage complex institutions, and mobilize resources to translate discovery into real-world solutions.

Fellows are embedded in labs of excellence at the Institut Pasteur, while simultaneously receiving business and leadership training through top global business schools. This integrated approach prepares Fellows to operate effectively at the intersection of science, policy, and implementation.

Imge Ozugergin

[nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]Lady Mireille and Sir Dennis Gillings Global Public Health Fellow | PhD, Concordia University, 2024-2026 Cohort
[/nectar_responsive_text][nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]Imge Ozugergin, PhD (Concordia University), is a Lady Mireille and Sir Dennis Gillings Global Public Health Fellow conducting pioneering research at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. Her work focuses on cytokinesis, the final physical step of cell division, and how its disruption contributes to glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and lethal forms of brain cancer.

[/nectar_responsive_text][nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]At the Institut Pasteur, Imge uses advanced live-cell imaging and interdisciplinary approaches to uncover how glioblastoma cells divide, fail to divide, and adapt under physical constraints within the brain. Her findings have revealed unexpected patterns in cancer cell behavior, opening new avenues for understanding tumor progression and identifying potential therapeutic vulnerabilities.[/nectar_responsive_text]

[nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]A distinctive feature of Imge’s research is its interdisciplinary and collaborative nature, bridging cancer biology, cell mechanics, advanced microscopy, and experimental tool design. The environment at the Institut Pasteur — and the structure of the Fellowship — made this work possible in ways that would not have been feasible elsewhere.[/nectar_responsive_text][nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]“It’s difficult to come up with a proper way to say thank you to Lady M, because where I am now would not have happened without her or the Fellowship. It’s had a profound effect on my personal life — and scientifically, this project would not have happened anywhere else. The collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of this work is once-in-a-lifetime.”[/nectar_responsive_text][nectar_responsive_text inherited_font_style=”default” text_direction=”default”]Beyond her scientific achievements, Imge’s experience reflects the Fellowship’s deeper impact. As a scientist and a mother, she has spoken openly about how the Fellowship provided the stability, flexibility, and institutional support needed to pursue ambitious research while building a life in a new country. She describes this period as one of renewed purpose — both personally and professionally.

Imge’s trajectory exemplifies the Fellowship in practice: rigorous science, the ability to operate across disciplines and institutions, and the structural support required to sustain innovation and talent. Her work underscores how targeted investment in people — not just projects — can unlock extraordinary scientific and human potential.[/nectar_responsive_text]
