Chief Executive Officer, Sanofi

Dr. Garijo is a physician specializing in clinical pharmacology whose career has moved between the clinic, the laboratory, and the highest levels of pharmaceutical leadership. She served as Chair of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, from 2021 to 2026 — the first woman to lead a DAX 40 company — before returning to Sanofi, where she had earlier led the integration of Genzyme, to become its Chief Executive Officer in 2026.

The Pasteur Foundation honors Dr. Garijo for a career that embodies the evening's theme: a scientist who has carried discovery from bench to boardroom, and who has opened doors for the women who will lead the next generation of research.

Discovery does not happen on its own. It is led — by scientists who ask the question no one else has asked, and by the leaders who make sure the answer reaches the world. Each spring, the Pasteur Foundation gathers scientists, philanthropists, and leaders in industry for one evening in New York in support of the Institut Pasteur. This year we honor the women leading the next era of discovery — in the laboratory, in the boardroom, and across the institutions that carry science forward.

Proceeds from the evening support groundbreaking research at the Institut Pasteur — across infectious disease, neuroscience, cancer, and global health — and the Foundation's programs that bring early-career scientists into its laboratories in Paris and across the Pasteur Network.

Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.
